Sounding off

broken men and their nukes

main_900Two psychologically broken men wagging their nuke dicks to compensate for god knows what broke in them so completely.

The world – minus the 32% who think trump is some kind of infallible fucking god – watches in a sad mix of horror and disbelief.

Congress needs to do something about the American idiot.

The UN needs to do something about the North Korean idiot.

I makes me quite sad that I have used this picture of an exploding nuke at least five times since last January 22nd…

How did it come to this. The fate of the world rests in the hands of these two manics, a failed congress and a dysfunctional UN.

I for one may not be buying green bananas anytime soon…

This morning I woke up sober.

This morning I woke up sober. That means this year I’ve spent more New Years mornings sober than sick. The balance has shifted to the positive side and will hopefully stay there.

I’ll never understand the appeal of the years waking up on the floor, surrounded by violent people. Drugged people, severely drunk people. Sick people. [Read more…] about This morning I woke up sober.

Khrushchev was right…

When I was a kid, existing in the constant shadow of the evil Soviet empire, I used to wonder how people could live like that.

I used to wonder what it must be like to live under a totalitarian regime. [Read more…] about Khrushchev was right…

Notable Events – Sports and Weather – NEWS

I realized recently that people really don’t know facts they know stories. They don’t study things. They accept sound bites and tales on CNN and Fox News.

Ronald Reagan was a great president because his trickle down economics made the country better for all of us – swear to God.

No idea whatsoever what Reagan’s economic policies were about. No idea. I love it when in the same conversation, Reagan and his policies are treated with a reverence once reserved for God.

Two minutes later it turns to bitching about not being able to afford healthcare, and the rising cost of everything and how the middle class is being eradicated.

Obama was responsible for the economic crash of ’07-08 – before he even took office.

Iraq was responsible for 9/11…

This is how people like Trump get elected. Screw the facts, spin your story and sell it.

When I asked how it was justifiable that Cheney’s company made 38.5 billion off a war, in an oil-rich country, that had nothing to do with 9/11, I got the look of a deer in the headlights.

I got the feeling I’m trying to bail out a sinking ship with a teaspoon. It’s not about intelligence. It’s about distraction. Distracted people don’t have time to look for the facts.

The three company’s that own the news in the US, down from 60 in the 1960-70’s are doing their job.

21st. Century Fox and Disney now will be one mega-entertainment company. Entertainment is media too. They sell a story just like Fox News.

NEWS – Notable Events Weather and Sports. It used to be Who, What, Where and When. On occasion, a journalist would deliver an editorial. When they did a disclaimer made it clear the views expressed were solely the views of the journalist, not the broadcaster.

News today is entertainment and control.

We are not mind controlled, we are mind fucked. Both sides CNN and Fox. Both of these entities discredit perhaps our most precious right – freedom of the press.

It’s sucks to be the one mired in the facts. I want to drink the Kool-Aid and believe the stories; like when I was a kid and the commies were the boogie man. Good ol’ commies.

Sounds of silence and a sinking ship

I woke up with the Sounds of Silence in my head. Not the Paul Simon version, the Disturbed version.

The original, by Paul Simon, from the ‘60’s, was always, to me, quiet and reflective. A song about isolation, possibly confusion. Maybe a need to speak out against the machine, the growing madness.

The song by Disturbed strikes me as an anthem for today. The time for reflection long past, it’s all about rage now.

The explosive divided 60’s. The great American military-industrial complex was gearing up, but it was somehow still narrowly controlled. It wasn’t yet the government.

We were divided, but there was a road back. People complained about the cost of moon shots vs. feeding the hungry, but we did both, or we tried, neither effort went as far as it could have.

The war tore us apart, Nixon’s troops killed kids on college campuses, but I think there was a sense that as bad as it was, as bad as it got, we’d survive Nixon. We’d heal.

Congress was a mess, but there was still a handful who’d cover our backs. They wouldn’t abandon us to the fascists. We were still Americans.

One of the best conversations of my life was with a guy born in Mississippi, 1957, same year as me.

That’s a post all on its own.

The skinny black kid in Tupelo, Mississippi in 1963 had a different worldview than the fat white kid in Middletown, NY. Today, I finally can connect with his angst and despair; his sense of abandonment.

He said to me as our conversation was ending, “we are all on our own, Bill. No one, ain’t no one got your back. This government has always wanted us in chains and leg irons. You just didn’t see it. Your white privilege protected you.”

He was right. Being white and fat and middle class and from the north allowed me to believe the illusion a little longer.

America today reminds of what it must have been like on the deck of the Titanic that frigid April night in 1912.

We are sinking, breaking in two, and there ain’t nobody coming to the rescue.

And, brother, we are sinking fast…
