Water for Christmas

A woman commented to me this week that her Christmas was not all that she had expected.

I keep this picture on my phone, I’ve had it for years.

I showed her this image and said, ”You shit in cleaner water than this child will ever drink. Merry Christmas.”

She read a poem from a man who had been sober twenty- two years and then relapsed. He had completely fallen apart. The poem she read was one of the last things he wrote, before his fall:

Nick called me up on a Friday night and said he needed a ride to Newburgh Toyota Saturday morning.

A little confused, I asked, “What car do you have at Newburgh Toyota?”
